Grassroots Coaches Team Building Retreat
Forca Goa Foundation recently organized a special 3-day team building workshop for all it’s Grassroots coaches in South Goa. We firmly believe in building coaches as role models not only for the children they train but for the community as a whole. We encourage and strongly advocate personal development programs and coach education so that our coaches can be good leaders in society.
The workshop was organized for the coaches, by the coaches, to review the season gone by and to prepare themselves for the new season ahead, by sharing their experiences and knowledge gained through the year. The three-day program had activities on team building, workshops on coach education and sessions on self-introspection and meditation.
Fr. Milchester, from the St. Francis Friary, Canacona held talks on being good representatives to young children and how to use football as a means to teach children good values so that they develop into good people when they grow up. Some of the coaches that went on different learning opportunities through the year like the Premier Skills Coaching program and the Scouting Training, used the opportunity to share what they had learned with the entire group so all the coaches could benefit.
The Foundation also prioritizes child safety and a special session was organized that helped coaches understand the different types of abuse a child can go through and the steps coaches need to take to identify and report that abuse.
Another highlight of the workshop was the workshop on training special needs children. After launching its #FootballForAll campaign last year in a bid to make the sport all-inclusive, the foundation introduced girls to their programmes. This year the Foundation wants to add to the campaign by taking it one step further and getting children with different abilities involved as well. The coaches who underwent this training at the Premier Skills program conducted the workshop so that the same could be implemented across all Forca Goa Foundation centers.
