Celebrating Women’s Day at Forca Goa Foundation
March 8th every year is celebrated as International Women’s Day across the globe.
We appreciate the love and support shown towards women on this particular day, however, the foundation believes in celebrating women every single day. Whilst we see there has been significant progress in women’s participation in sports, we understand that there is a lot more left to be done. Women in sports are yet to receive the same backing as men.
The Forca Goa Foundation under its #Football4All campaign promotes and encourages girls to play the beautiful game of football. Right from having games with mixed(boys & girls) teams, to having girls take over the ‘ball boy’ role at one of our ISL home games. The foundation is here to break gender stereotypes and hopefully co-create an inclusive society that has equal opportunities for men and women.
To celebrate International Women’s day, the foundation with encouragement from the AIFF organized three special football festivals for girls. The festivals were three hours long with a mix of football training, fun warm-up games and 5 v 5 sides pop up tournaments. For some of the girls who showed up at the festival, this was their first encounter with a football. It was inspiring to see how quickly these girls got the hang of the right way to kick a football and of the basic football rules.
The festivals, two of which were in North in Goa and one in the South, had almost a 100 girls participating in each festival. The PE teachers and a few parents who were present at the festival were all praise to the organizers for putting together an empowering event like this one. The festivals were a huge success and engaged close to 300 girls across the state.
