Coaches Day Out!

 In Game, Grassroots

It is said that nothing brings people together quite like a game of football! Using the excuse of introducing two new grassroots coaches to the FC Goa coaching family, 19 of our coaches got together at Chowgule ground for an evening of 5v5 futsal.

After the new recruits, Somshekar Kumbar and Caliston Vaz were allowed to make the round of introductions to the rest of the team, the coaches divided themselves into three teams.

Team A comprised of the senior coaches who work with the FC Goa senior and development squad. Derrick Pereira, Clifford Miranda, Gavin Araujo, Sugitesh Mandrekar and Richard Rebello took to the field for team A.

The grassroots coaches split up with the South Coaches forming team B and the North coaches representing team C. Orlando, Johnson, Benjamin, Allan, Premson, Milagres and Clinton represented team B and Naresh, Rupesh, Inacio, Xavier, Nayan, and Somshekar turned up for team C.

The matches were to be held in a league style with each team taking on the others in a 15-minute game. The team with the most points at the end of the two matches would be declared the winner.

The first match saw Team A take on Team B and had Clifford Miranda rolling back the years with a stunning performance to lead his team to a comfortable 5-2 victory.

The second match had the senior coaches from team A take on the North Coaches. The match was evenly fought out with both sides having opportunities. Derrick Pereira showed his class but could do nothing about sharing the points in a 3-3 draw.

The final match saw the grassroots coaches battle it out for bragging rights. In a keenly contested game, Team B came out on top by the slimmest margins. Naresh Virnodkar was adjudged as the player of the game.

At the end of the short but exciting league, Team A topped the standings with 4 points followed by Team B with 3. More than a competition, the matches were played to bring the coaches closer while playing the game they loved the most!
