Narendra Naik, Goa’s first aspirant to make the Reliance Foundation Young Champs Academy.
On the eve of Reliance Foundations Young Champs Scouting Camp, we look back at Goa’s first ever aspirant to enrol at the Reliance Academy.
11-year-old Narendra Naik, who hails from Sangolda in North Goa was the first Goan to be selected for the Reliance Foundation Young Champs Academy. He, along with 16 other candidates had joined the existing crop of talent at the academy in Mumbai in 2016.
Naik was put through an extensive screening process, which saw him emerge with the scholarship. Being part of the Goan Football Development Council, Narendra’s journey began when he was invited to participate at the Reliance Foundation Young Champs trials which were conducted by FC Goa. He was one among the 18 shortlisted for the camp in Mumbai, where he had traveled along with other hopefuls under the guidance of FC Goa’s Grassroots Development Director Gavin Araujo.
In Mumbai, the players had undergone a challenging program which gave the participants valuable football skills and had also attended theoretical sessions and seminars. He had emerged among the top 17 out of a possible 158 candidates and earned his place at the academy.
